The fixed KM–euro peg

1 EUR = 1.95583 KM (fixed)

The convertible mark has been pegged to the euro through a currency board arrangement since its introduction: the rate of 1.95583 KM per euro is fixed by law and never changes. KM ↔ EUR conversion is therefore always exact and independent of daily rates.

Other currencies (USD, RSD, GBP, CHF) use daily-updated mid-market rates, converted via the euro. Commercial banks and exchange offices add their own margin, so their rates are always somewhat less favorable than mid-market. On a trip you pay that margin on every exchange, so it pays to estimate how much cash you actually need first — that is what the trip cost calculator is for.

Example

500 KM in euros: 500 ÷ 1.95583 = 255.65 EUR — always, regardless of the date. For dollars, convert to euros first, then multiply by the daily rate: at 1.09 USD per euro, 500 KM ≈ 278.65 USD. Loans with a euro clause carry no exchange-rate risk in KM thanks to the fixed peg, so you can compute the payment directly in the loan calculator.
